History: Cybele has no love for Medusa or her plans, but she has even less love and interest for anyone who isn't a witch. She came under Medusa's service two hundred years prior to the start of the game. Where she was one a formidable witch who would fight on the battlefield when she was first forced to join Medusa, she found her interests later focusing more on the sciences. Cybele lost her drive and interest in fighting the war during this point, and began to shy away more from the battleground in favour for expanding her knowledge in science. She had a keen mind for such work, a mind that Medusa saw great potential in, and so she was soon enough put to work in many of the science facilities throughout the world.
Cybele kept out of the limelight for centuries throughout the fight. Most of her work was credited to other noisier fighters while she continued to work quietly in the background. She was one of the Witches who helped to experiment on the kidnapped Shibusen guests not long after the four who were sent to the future disappeared. It was during the rescue of these kidnapped guests that Cybele first came onto Shibusen's radar.
It wasn't until a few months after that event where her life would take a turn. Shibusen received intel on another witch factory, and during their decimation of the factory, stumbled on Cybele as she attempted to escape from the facility. She battled against the combined forces of Spirit and Stein, and while she defended herself, Cybele's main interests were to escape so that she could continue on with her experiments elsewhere. That didn't happen, however, and she was soon detained by the fighting pair, had her magic sealed away, and locked away as a prisoner at the bottom of Shibusen.
That was where she stayed for weeks. During that time, many would enter her cell and attempt to extract information out of her, but each attempt failed. Instead she'd just smile at them and wait for the day where her sisters would come and break her out of her cell so that she could continue with her experiments. The days rolled into weeks, and she began to grow impatient soon enough. Wanting to get the witches attention, Cybele began to slip out small bits of information about possible witch hideouts or plots designed to further damage Shibusen's reputation throughout the world. All of the information she gave Shibusen was then placed on the Mission Board under investigations, and after Shibusen agents investigated those areas, they'd discovered that the intelligence she was offering was worth the effort of continuing to try and extract it from her. Cybele didn't mind, however, as she knew that her sisters would take notice and eventually realise their best interests were to enter Death City and break her out of there.
Her attempts to draw them there failed though, and it wasn't until Cybele's impatience evaporated away that she caught the witches full attention. This was because Cybele had so easily offered up the location of four large Madness-field generators set throughout four countries within Europe. It had been a plan that Medusa had been working on and carefully putting into place, but Shibusen assaulted these four areas and took down the Madness inducing generators.
All she had to do was sit back and wait then. It didn't take too much longer after that battle. The Witches who came for her first prepared the city by slipping Black Blood into the city's water supply. Once the city was thrown off guard, the Witches began their invasion and assassination attempt. Four witches attacked the city, three with the mission to cause destruction and kidnap guests, while the last witch had the mission of assassinating Cybele.
Cybele was infuriated by the realisation that the witches had been sent here to assassinate her. She had been as loyal to Medusa's plan as any other of the witches, and had only wished to return to her work. Her fiery anger consumed her, and she took the betrayal of her sisters to hear as revenge consumed her soul. The pair fought viciously above the city, but with the large majority of her magic still sealed, there was only so long that Cybele could last in that fight. Soon enough she received a mortal blow and was impaled on a spear of darkness. Ready to strike the final blow, what the witch hadn't factored in was the interjection of Spirit into the fight.
He broke a heavily injured Cybele free from the shadow spear before transforming into his weapon form. Consumed by her rage and need for revenge, Cybele did the unthinkable and wielded Spirit in battle against her attacker. Swiping the large scythe towards the witch, the pair delivered a massive blow to their target that forced the witch to retreat from battle.
Angered by the betrayal, Cybele's focus in life became consumed with revenge. Yet her magic was still sealed, and without it, the witch wouldn't be able to take the fight to her sisters. Seeing this both in her gestures and during their resonation, Spirit managed to convince Cybele that her best chance of survival and revenge would be to enter into an alliance with Shibusen. It had taken time, but she had eventually agreed to temporarily join with Shibusen until she'd earnt her magic back in exchange for helping to provide aid with rescuing the guests who had been kidnapped.
She kept to her word, and gave the information needed to locate the facility the witches were holding the Shibusen guests. Cybele ultimately aided with their rescue this time around, and helped to save the lives of almost everyone who had been kidnapped. Yet on her return to Death City, the Witch disappeared back into the shadows to bide her time for her injuries to heal, and to wait for the day where her magic would be unsealed and she'd be able to fight again.
Death the Kid eventually approached Cybele with a proposition. He proposed a contract that would allow her to slowly see the return of her full magical abilities in exchange for teaching the Shibusen guests about witches and how to fight them. It took some negotiation on both sides, but they eventually settled on a contract that both sides were satisfied with.
Personality: Cybele is every bit a reflection of her witch magic. She is hot tempered, quick to anger, and can fly into uncontrollable rages when she feels slighted. Those who slight her are often put on her 'hit-list', and it is near-impossible to be erased from it without going through a considerable amount of effort in trying to win her back over. There are times where she has difficulties containing her anger. It's during these times that the witch generally disappears to find an isolated location where she could released the ready-to-burst anger inside.
She is also extremely curious. Cybele's not afraid to walk up to anyone or into any situation is she wants to satisfy her curiosity. She's much like a cat in that regard. She'll bat around and poke whatever's gained her interest until she's either satisfied it or worn out her welcome. This is part of what made her so effective with her experiments, as she wasn't afraid to go that little step further in order to get the results she wanted. If she didn't, she'd start to look at new angles in order to figure out an alternative route towards an answer.
There's also a definite sense of being unable to care for others. She's often disassociated with most emotions such as kindness, forgiveness, and sympathy. They're seen as a weakness to her, so she has destroyed almost all traces of those aspects of her personality. There is little that would cause her to react in that regard, and more often than not she will only react to something that incites her anger and wrath.
The Witch, much like her familiars, has a strong sense of family and the bonds that are forged within them. She may be difficult to get close to due to her hot tempered and uncaring nature, but to those she considers part of her pride, she cares for them and protects them as if they were her own.
Lastly, but certainly not least, she is an extremely proud witch. She's proud not only in her abilities, but also her accomplishments and her familiars as well. Her pride in those areas often leave her with feeling arrogant, and she tends to look down on those who aren't on the same level as she is, and isn't afraid to put those beneath her in their place.
Powers: Complete control over the fire element. With her fire mainly sealed in the city, she can only create low-level fire based attacks that would be similar to the level of a weak witch. In combination to her fire abilities, she also has the ability to ensnare her targets with barbed vines that she used to hold her enemies in place. This ability, however, still remains completely sealed inside.
Familiar: Cybele's familiar is that of a lion. They are powerful beasts that can only be taken down by a Meister wielding a Weapon. Each lion is as strong as a kishin egg.
